How We Verify Reading Orders

Last updated

  1. List the works from the author's or publisher's bibliography, including novellas, short fiction and graphic novels that belong to the series.
  2. Date each work from its first publication, citing the record used. Unknown dates stay unknown.
  3. Collect the orders that a source actually defines: publisher numbering, author-stated chronology, author reading guides. Each becomes its own selectable order with its source.
  4. Place short fiction only where the author or publisher says where it fits. Otherwise it appears under "not placed".
  5. Check edition contents for collections and omnibus editions against publisher or catalogue listings.
  6. Cross-check against at least one independent reference and record any disagreement on the page.
  7. Run automated validation (see methodology) before anything is published.
  8. Record the date of verification on the series page.

Some pages currently rely on secondary references because official pages were unavailable when we checked. Those pages carry a visible notice until the official check is done.
