Honor Harrington (Honorverse) reading order
By David Weber · Last verified · 18 sources
Quick answer
Read the fourteen main Honor Harrington novels in publication order, starting with On Basilisk Station. The spin-off series (Saganami Island, Crown of Slaves, Star Kingdom, Manticore Ascendant) and the Worlds of Honor anthologies are part of the same universe; there is no official combined chronology, so this page does not invent one.
Military science fiction universe built around 14 mainline Honor Harrington novels, with several spin-off novel series (some co-written) and eight Worlds of Honor shared-world anthologies from Baen Books.
- The series has 33 novels, 2 novellas, 38 short stories.
- In publication order, the main sequence starts with On Basilisk Station (1993) and the latest listed is Uncompromising Honor (2018).
- No source we trust defines an alternative (e.g. chronological) order, so we show publication order only.

Not placed in this order
Our sources do not give a position for these works in this order, so we do not guess one.
- A Call to Deception
Why the order isn't simple
- Spin-off series (Saganami Island, Crown of Slaves) run alongside the later mainline novels.
- Prequel series (Star Kingdom, Manticore Ascendant) are set centuries earlier but were published late.
- Several spin-off novels grew out of anthology stories (e.g. From the Highlands, A Call to Arms, A Beautiful Friendship).
- Baen's own numbering differs between mainline and whole-universe counts.
Which order should I use?
Publication order is the only order shown. Baen's numbering is not a reliable guide: it labels Uncompromising Honor 'book #19' although it is the fourteenth main novel.
Within each sub-series, publication order is also the reading order the publisher uses for its series listings.
Where each order comes from

About the sub-series
Baen groups the Honorverse into several lines: the 14 main Honor Harrington novels; the Saganami Island books (The Shadow of Saganami to Shadow of Victory); Crown of Slaves (from Crown of Slaves to To End in Fire); the Star Kingdom books beginning with A Beautiful Friendship; and Manticore Ascendant, the 'A Call to…' novels about Travis Long. A Call to Deception is listed by Baen as delayed and has no date.
Because the spin-offs were published alongside the main series and no official combined chronology exists, the sub-series filter is the practical way to follow one line at a time.

We don't pick a winner silently. When sources conflict we show each view and cite it.
Numbering of Uncompromising Honor
Baen's book page calls it book #19 in the series, while Baen's mainline bundle places it 14th of the mainline novels. We show mainline number 14 and note Baen's whole-universe count.
